Transcription: This is a part of the frescoed frieze that rings the rotunda, appearing just below its 36 windows. All panels of the frieze depict events in American history, with emphasis on Spanish explorers and the Revolutionary War. The scenes were designed in 1859 by Constantino Brumidi, who also painted the fresco in the dome of the Capitol.
